This beautiful and elegant "oval flower" ring can be worn as a cocktail ring or everyday. It has an 18k yellow gold shank and sterling silver on the top part (with French "eagle and boar" stamp on the shank). The center is a French man-made "ruby, " (also called a "French ruby") that was cut, faceted, and polished beautifully in France, using the advanced technique that the French were reknowned for, and which was very much in demand in its day.The "French ruby" is surrounded by 14 "French diamonds" (not real); and around that, there are open-cut "petals" with 16 cut "French diamonds" (again, not real). These "French diamonds" are either "paste, " cut glass, or white sapphires. I have not had them tested. Note: There were originally 15 "French diamonds" directly around the "French ruby"; one is missing now. However, because the underneath "cup" that held it is silver, you don't notice that anything is missing when you look at the ring with the naked eye. The ring is approximately size 8. Although I wear a size 6 ½ and I can wear this and it doesn't even flip around. It can be re-sized by your jeweler in any case. The weight is 2.89 grams. I have many more art deco and Edwardian or art nouveau gold rings to sell -- many with synthetic diamonds, synthetic rubies, synthetic sapphires, and some with real pearls, or no stones. Feel free to ask me about the other rings. This is how I got this collection. My French great-grandparents and grandparents had a jewelry and watch store in Paris since the 19th century. They were forced to liquidate the store and flee into Vichy France during the Nazi occupation. They saved some jewelry, though, and since my grandparents passed away, the jewelry pieces were closed up in a safe deposit box for decades.
Now I just inherited it. It is all Art Deco or earlier, all French. Most are 18k yellow gold shank, with white gold, platinum, or silver settings on top. They feature "French sapphires" (meaning that very fine synthetic the French were famous for at the time), "French emeralds, " French rubies. There are also some with real pearls, real coral, real very small diamonds, and marcasite.
